What's the difference between a good facial scrub & microdermabrasion?

They both exfoliate and cleanse! What's the difference between a good facial scrub %26amp; microdermabrasion?
A facial scrub exfoliates only the already dead skin cells clinging to the surface of your skin - some skin care lines call this a polisher because that is essentially what a scrub does. It polishes the surface of the skin.

True microdermabrasion actually uses laser cut aluminum oxide crystals to shave off microscopic layers of skin that are still alive on the surface of the skin. By removing these layers that have been damaged but are still alive you do two things:

1. Reveal layers below the surface that are not already damaged or have less damage.

2. Force your skin to produce newer healthier layers faster so that over time the layers that come to the surface are newer, have less damage, and are much smoother and ';younger';.

As we age our metabolism slows and the natural process of skin cell turn-over slows. Microdermabrasion helps us trick nature into speeding our skin metabolism up to the pace we had in our 20's! Microderm is a repair product while a scrub is just a light-weight maintenance product.

Hope this helps! What's the difference between a good facial scrub %26amp; microdermabrasion?
Good question. I used apricot scrub for so many years, and as I got older changed to Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant...the stuff is awesome.

I also have done the microdermabrasion thing...it definitely sloughs the hell outta your skin and makes it look brand new, but the daily microfoliant makes it less needed.
you are right...it is just a fancy word for scrub...
Actually a true microdermabrasion doesn't usually clean. It is strictly an agent that removes/sloughs the dead skin cells off the surface of the skin and refines the surface for a smoother healthier look. Should minimize pores, the appearance of fine lines and black heads. A good Microdermabrasion set should also have a nourishing step. A serum to go on after you have dried your face to 'feed' your now refined face with vitamins.

A facial scrub is a cleanser with exfoliating properties. Unfortunately many of the facial scrubs are too rough on the skin. The exfoliaters in them are too large and are doing more damage than good.

I recommend a good cleanser and then 3 times a week doing a good microdermabrasion.
